“Every Setback, Every Grind that you go through, Every failure today sets your roadmap for tomorrow.”

It’s been a story that I have always heard right from my childhood, yet never realized or felt it the way I feel it today. I have always been told from my mother’s bedtime stories, inspirational quotes, by teachers & various other historical sources that Failures are a part of our life; we rise, we fall, we get hit the hardest, we may even feel nothing is working for me, but that’s the time you need to be the strongest & remember that no gold was cast without going through the fire, nor was any diamond made without sustaining an immense pressure.

I specifically remember this one guy, a master innovator & a creative genius. Walt Disney as the world knows him was a genius cartoonist. He changed the way we look at cartoons. The legendary Mickey Mouse has set a special place in all our hearts. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. How many of us know that the first cartoon company he started namely “Laugh-O-Grams”. It went bankrupt. Most of us haven’t heard the name of the company.

The company did earn some early success, it did have a good run creating caricatures for newspapers, magazines etc. yet in a span of 2.5 years the rising giant was totally burnt down to ashes. There was a time when Walt Disney had to sell everything to pay his debts & salaries. He slept on streets for weeks. But one thing he didn’t have to give up was his fight.

He fought for a larger good of spreading happiness, being successful, bleeding but never stopping. One of the most ironic moments from his days on streets was responsible for the introduction of Mickey Mouse. He used to observe street rats mischievously running around & creating nuisance, yet he found it amusing. Disney then headed to LA with $10 in cash, and an imitation-leather suitcase containing only a shirt, two undershorts, two pairs of socks and some drawing materials. That’s when he drew the first ever Mickey Mouse. The rest is history.

Your failures, setbacks do make you angry, every day. You wake up to fight the new fire that has appeared. Remember ‘Anger is just anger’. It isn’t good. It isn’t bad. It just is. What you do with it is what matters. It’s like anything else. You can use it to build or to destroy. You just have to make the choice.

Let me tell you something you already know. The world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Business is a very mean and nasty place and it doesn’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. I, you, or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it isn’t about how hard you are hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
